Directory of Streets
The street, commencing at the corporate line, on the east side of the city, at what is known as the wagon bridge, over the Kaskaskia river, and running thence in a northwesterly direction until it crosses the Chicago and Eastern Illinois Railroad, thence west along the south side of the Court House and through the main business portion of the city to the city limits shall be known as Main street.

All streets running East and west north of Main street to North 11th, are known as North 1st, North 2nd, etc.

All streets running East and West south of Main street to South 11th, are known as South 1st, South 2nd, etc.

The street commencing at the Big Four railway, three blocks east of Broadway, and running thence north to North Second street shall be known as Water Street.

Streets running North and South beginning at Water Street and C. & E. I. R. R. are as follows: Water, Washington, Morgan, Broadway, Walnut, Chestnut, Chestnut Place, Long, Wood, Lodge. Will, Charles, Douglas, Vine, Spruce, Cedar, Pine, Oak. Locust, Hickory.
